Experienced mentors committed to development, discipline, and a positive team culture.
Head Coach
James Dragescu
A Michigan hockey product with experience in respected A, AA, and AAA programs, James earned an opportunity with Michigan Tech's NCAA Division I program and helped establish the university's first ACHA club team. His coaching centers on skill development, teamwork, accountability, and confidence.
Assistant Coach
Bryan Dobek
An Escondido native, Bryan played four years of NCAA Division I hockey at Bowling Green State University before continuing professionally. A USA Hockey Level 4 coach, he brings local insight and high-level experience to mentoring players through skill development and competition.
Assistant Coach
David Graves III
Raised in Minnesota's deeply rooted hockey culture, David is a USA Hockey Level 4 coach focused on hockey IQ, confidence, work ethic, and team-first habits. He works to build a positive environment where players are supported, challenged, and excited to improve.

Goals &
expectations
Dear Mavericks Families, as we gear up for the season, we want to share the goals and expectations that guide every player and family in the Mavericks Club.
Our prioritiesFamily. School. Then Hockey.
Player development—on and off the ice
No matter the team, our focus is on improving every player’s skills, confidence, hockey IQ, and character.
Repetition with correction
Drills only help when they are done correctly. Coaches will provide constant feedback to build strong habits.
Encouraging mistakes
We want players to take risks, try new skills, and learn through mistakes in a supportive environment.
Game IQ growth
Players will apply their skills in real time while coaches help them recognize options and build hockey sense through problem-solving.
Clear expectations for players and parents build discipline, responsibility, and respect—on and off the ice.
Teams will play in multiple tournaments, including travel events beyond the Club’s standard options. Each coaching staff will determine its team schedule.
We are committed to developing our goaltenders with dedicated goalie coaching on the ice.
Our mission is to build better hockey players, stronger teammates, and great people.
